First, the source page must exist and be discoverable
A newly created page may need to be found and crawled. If it is isolated, low-value or unstable, that may not happen quickly—or at all in the way you expect.
Then the search engine evaluates the page and link
Indexing is not the same as assigning positive ranking value. Relevance, source quality, link attributes and spam systems all affect how a search engine may interpret a link.
Your target query has its own competition
Even a useful link is only one signal in a broader ranking system. Content quality, site architecture, intent satisfaction, competition and many other factors can affect positions.
Avoid fixed-day promises
Claims such as “links work in X days” oversimplify a complex process. Measure over a sensible period and compare against other changes made to the site rather than attributing every movement to one link.
What to record
- Date the source page appeared.
- Date the link was first confirmed live.
- Target URL and anchor.
- Relevant rankings and impressions before and after.
- Other SEO changes during the same period.
