Minimum fields to record
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Source URL | Shows exactly where the link lives. |
| Target URL | Identifies which page receives the link. |
| Anchor text | Lets you detect repetition and understand context. |
| Link attributes | Records nofollow, sponsored, ugc or ordinary links where detectable. |
| Date discovered | Helps reconstruct campaign timing. |
| Live status | Shows whether the page or link disappeared. |
Monitor changes, not just losses
A link can remain present while the anchor, target, page status or rel attributes change. Useful monitoring captures those changes rather than reporting only “live” or “lost.”
Why automation increases the need for records
High-volume submission can create more URLs than a person can remember. A reliable export or log makes it possible to audit representative samples, identify poor target types and stop repeating ineffective patterns.
